The LDS Church identifies itself as a Christian church. Why, then, do the LDS missionaries proselytize among those the Church recognizes as fellow Christians?

Because their claim to be Christian is exclusive. They believe, not only that they are Christians, but that they are the only Christians. That makes their public statement about being Christians a half truth because they do not claim publicly that they are the only true church. -T.J. (non-LDS)

The superficial answer is that the LDS church wants to bring what they see as the Truth to all, Christian & Non-Christian alike. However, in talking with numerous Returned LDS Missionaries, it seems their converts number exclusively from 'cultural' Christians (those who would probably call themselves Christian, but who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ). If, indeed, the overwhelming number of Mormon converts are nominally Christians, it may well be this phenomenon is a fullfillment of Mat 24:4-5. -R. (non-LDS)

if the lds church calls themselves christians then something is wrong, because b young, j smith, apostle orson pratt did not feel that way. i quote "the christian world, so-called, are heathens as to the knowledge of the salvation of god" journal of discourses 8:171. "with a regard to true theology, a more ignorant people never lived than the present so-called christian world" j.o.d.8:199. "we talk about christianity,but it is a perfect pack of nonsence...the devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work than the christianity of the nineteenth century" j.o.d. 6:167. "all other churches are entirely destitute of all authority from god; and any person who receives baptism or the lords supper from their hands highly offends god for he looks upon them as the most corrupt of all people" the seer. when asked "will all be damned but mormons?" he replied, "yes,and a great portion of them unless they repent and work righteousness" teachings pg 119. "behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the lamb of god, and the other is the church of the devil" 1 nephi 14:10. even if most mormons did not know about the other quotes they should know about the one from the b.o.m. any one who says the church does not recignise the j.o.d. because it is not published by the church should read mormon encyclopedia, teachings and miracle of forgiveness.they all quote the j.o.d. so it is only fair i use it also. any questions contact me at [email protected]. -RB (non-LDS)
