Question 41

Question

According to LDS teachings, Heavenly Father sired all human beings spiritually in the pre-existence. If we were all siblings in the pre-existence, are we creating incestuous unions when we marry each other in the mortal world? If not, please explain.

Answers

It sounds to me by the question asked either the person asking the question does not believe in the pre-mortal existence or does not believe that God sired all of us. Furthermore may be questioning Gods judgment. I for one will not question Gods judgment in this matter to call it incestuous but can talk about the proof of the premortal existence and Heavenly Fathers creation of us.

We know there was a pre-mortal existence due to the following scriptures. (Jeremiah 1:4-5) "4 Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations." Also let's look at (John 1:1-2) "1 IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God." Lets look also at the war in Heaven in (Revelation 12:7-12) "7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, 8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. 10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. 12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time." Pay particular attention to verse 10 where it states that the power is in Christ and that the brethren are cast down. Verse 12 states that the Devil is cast down unto you. This confirms that Jesus and Lucifer were brothers and our brothers also. One can conclude that we were all in the Premortal existence based on the scriptures above.

Now how do we know that heavenly father sired all of us? (Acts 17:28-29) "28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. 29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device."

Now that we have established there is a premortal state and that God sired all of us to establish us a "brothers and sisters" of Christ. Having that information what can we know from here? We are to live by Gods commandments and what is the first commandment he gave? (Gen 1:27-28) "27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth." If you take Genesis to be an accurate book of the Bible as most Christians do. I think you can even go further and ask the question on a earthly scale leaving heaven out altogether. If Adam and Eve are the first pair, can one ask if we all committing incest since we are all related one way or another? I personally will rely on the word of God and his commandments and not worry about questioning God and his judgment. -ER (LDS)

Regarding the above answer:

I definately agree that we are not marrying our siblings when we get married. However, all of the scripture that was quoted previously does nothing to support your arguement of pre-exhistance. All it proves is that God is omnicient and knows everything about us even before physical conception. None of the scripture quoted tells us that we are first spiritual, then physical, then spiritual again.

In response to your quote of Revelations, that is clearly a description of what's to come in the end times after the Rapture. That is what will happen to the earth and people who never accepted Jesus Christ as their savior, who never allow his grace to enter their hearts.

I pray for those of you who do not understand our Lord and Savior's gift of redemption. The Bible is perfect in it's teaching, the word of our one true God. -J (non-LDS)

i believe the bible teaches we are all related so therefore we are marring siblings. yet it is not incestuous because the gene pool is so diverse. god created adam and eve, then they had kids. they had to marry each other. gen 3:20 says eve is the mother of all living. notice there is no other mother. now on the pre-mortal existence, i don't believe the scripture above quoted establishes the fact we pre existed. in jeremiah 1:5, when it says i knew thee before you were formed, it is like a carpenter making a house. he knows all about what it will be like before it is formed. the bible teaches god cannot lie. so in job 38:1-3 god demands an answer from job, saying where were you when i did all this work. this would be unfair of god to demanded an answer and then job saying i'm sorry i was not there, when if we did pre-exist god should have said, don't you remember when i did all this? for god not to say that would make him a liar if we really were there beforehand. gen 2:1 says thus the heavens and the earth were finished. and all the host of them. the host referred to is the angels which means they also were created. hebrews chapter 1:1-14 tells us jesus is better than the angels, and it says god never called one of the angels his son (verse 5. also 2 nephi 9:8 says satan is an angel). 1 cor 6:3 says we will judge angels, so does this mean we will judge jesus? interesting thing to ponder for a mormon: you will judge your savior. for further talks you can reach me at ([email protected]) we can discuss the pre-existence more in-depth. -RB (non-LDS)
